Just as I got to the head of the queue, the cook called out, ‘Zero! Take a break!’

Steve gave a huge sigh, got himself a bowl and joined me for breakfast. It was the same goop we’d had for dinner.

‘Man, I have no idea how the cook does it! He definitely has the hardest job on the ship… I’ve only helped him with two meals and I’m DEAD!’ said Steve, as he scooped grey stuff into his mouth.

Gaslow floated over to us just as we finished eating.

‘Deck now,’ he said, and led us up to find Cap’n Dry-Bones and Rosie.

‘Argh, me young cabin mobs, how be ye?’ asked the captain.

‘We’re good, sir. Still adjusting to the sea life,’ answered Steve for the both of us.

‘Argh, that be good. Now, I’ve thought long and hard about how long ye be cabin mobs before we sail ye home,’ Cap’n Dry-Bones said.

Steve and I waited. Surely a week would be more than enough?

‘Ye’ll have to work for… NINE THOUSAND, EIGHT HUNDRED AND THIRTY-SIX days,’ he said.

Uh… did I just hear that right?

‘Almost TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS,’ Gaslow confirmed.

Steve and I looked at each other.

‘WHHHATTTTTTTTT?’ we screamed.
